Foot and mouth restrictions close our footpath

2001 - January 2

Durham County Council's  analysis of the Index of Multiple Deprivation identified Stainton Grove as being in one of the 3 neediest wards in Teesdale.  Over all, Stainton Grove was ranked within the top 10% to 20% most needy wards nationally. (22)

2001 - February 27

One week after the first Foot and Mouth case was comfirmed, the Government gave powers to county councils to close all rights of way in livestock areas.  It was 14 months before all the footpaths in the district, including Stainton Grove, were open again. (175)

2001 - March 7

It was decided that a proposed Durham County Council development would be sited on Teesdale District Council land at Stainton Grove.  This was supported in principle by the community services committee of Teesdale District Council.

Our footpath crosses this land. (78)

2001 - March 28

The proposal to site the development at Stainton Grove was endorsed by the full district council. (190)
